2009 US Department of Energy Regulations

The DOE announced new minimum efficiency requirements for linear and U-bend fluorescent lamps and for halogen PAR lamps. The new standard will become effective for the manufacture of these products in the summer of 2012. The government has set minimum lumens per watt (LPW) regulations for these lamps. This set of regulations will eliminate nearly all 4-foot T12 lamps, some 4-foot T8 lamps (namely the 700 series), most 8-foot T12 lamps, and nearly all standard halogen PAR38, PAR30 and PAR20 lamps from the market.

There is only one year left for lamp manufacturers to make F34T12 and F96T12 lamps!

2005 US Department of Energy Regulations

In 2005, the DOE enacted regulations that prevented the manufacture of specific magnetic fluorescent lamp ballasts to be sold to be installed in new fixtures. These rules applied to such replacement ballasts sold through the electrical distribution channel as of July 1, 2010. For specific information on these rules and which ULT Basic-12 T12 ballasts can be purchased today for replacement, click here.
